Beady eyed bird looking for collectables and design stuff
If you’ve ever seen the film Ghost World, with Thora Birch and Scarlett Johanssen, chances are you’ll have seen and heard some of the below record. At the start of the film Thora Birch’s character is seen watching the film in her bedroom.
WhenI first watched the film this entirely passed me by until a few years later when I looked up the soundtrack and really heard the record for the first time. it is nothing short of amazing (even after this many years I can listen to this record and unfailingly feel immediately happy!)
Sometime after that that I looked up the song on YouTube to play it to someone I knew and stumbled across this video, I love everything about it, the fact it’s so americanised, the mad masks and dancing, the fact that all of the ladies are in flat shoes and look like they’ve eaten more than a rice cracker their whole lives, the singer and his white suit?
The whole thing is, well, there’s no other way to say it, its unhinged, it’s amazing, it’s brilliant and you definitely need it in your life…
Jaan Pehechaan Ho is by Mohammed Rafi and is originally from the 1963 film Gumnaam. The backing band on this song are called Ted Lyons and his cubs and appear in a number of Indian films from the era, this awesome blog on Memsaabstory tells you more!
Here are some more shots from the video…
Last but by no means least, here is another Ted Lyons and his cubs video from 1964 film Jaanwar, in which they cover The Beatles I wanna Hold Your Hand (It’s called Dekho Ab Toh)- enjoy!
P.S Ghost World is based on a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes who is absolutely amazing.
